City of Round Rock offering full day Kids’ Clubhouse program

Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a full day program for any school aged student who needs care during virtual school instruction. The Kids’ Clubhouse program will take place starting Thursday, Aug. 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center, located at 1600 Gattis School Road.

There will be a designated learning time as well as arts and crafts activities, gym games, sports and more. This program is free for City employee dependents and is open to the public for a fee. Space is limited so register today by emailing Selisa Woessner at swoessner@roundrocktexas.gov.

What will each day look like?

The layout of the RRISD distance learning program will determine our final program schedule.  However, we anticipate the schedule will work something like this:  Students will arrive in the morning and participate in morning free time activities, the program will open for drop offs at 7 a.m. For part of the day, your child will use their devices to complete their daily activities, connect live with their teachers for individual and small group lessons, and finish any homework and assignments. We will guide your student through the distance learning program and will also facilitate meals times, breaks and outdoor play and activities. The counselors may not be able to accommodate all learning aspects but will assist the best they can. For the remainder of the day, we will switch to our afterschool based program where your child will have a variety of activities to take part in such as, sports, games, arts and crafts and more. The program will close at 6 p.m. and all children will need to be picked up by that time. We will use Round Rock School District calendar for our program, however, we will do our best to accommodate other districts online learning methods/schedules.

What is the age range?

The full day program will be available to all school-aged students. Your child does not have to be a Round Rock ISD student to participate.

What should my child bring to the program?

Depending on RRISD requirements, your child will need to bring a laptop, iPad, headphones and a backpack. We anticipate RRISD will provide a list of supplies needed for virtual learning. Please include these in your child’s backpack. Your child should also bring lunch and a water bottle.  We will provide a morning and afternoon snack.

What will it cost?

The cost of the program will be free for dependents of City of Round Rock employees.  This program is open to the public and does have limited capacity.  Please be respectful and only register if you are committed to attending the program.  If registered for the program, we expect your child’s attendance.  Failure to attend/communicate absences could result in withdrawal from the program and space given to other interested users.

What happens when RRISD reopens to in-person classes?

When RRISD opens back up, we will continue offering the full day program if we feel that there is still a need from parents. We will also begin to offer our normal after school program which picks up from a few designated elementary schools.

How do I register?

If you are interested in registering or for more information about this program, please feel free to email Selisa Woessner at swoessner@roundrocktexas.gov.
