Directors step into the “hot seat” for FY26 Proposed Budget video series

This year, the City of Round Rock’s Communications and Marketing Department introduced a creative way to share the proposed budget with the community. Released following the Aug. 28 City Council meeting on the City’s website and YouTube channel, Budget Hot Takes is a video series where City leaders explain the numbers behind major investments while taking on wings that get progressively spicier.

In the series, Police Chief Allen Banks and Assistant Chief Justin Carmichael discuss the addition of 10 new officers and technology. Fire Chief Shane Glaiser outlines plans for six new firefighters and two new stations. Public Works Executive Director Michael Thane explains long-term water supply projects, roadway construction and Recycling Center improvements. Parks and Recreation Director Rick Atkins and Assistant Director David Buzzell share updates on Old Settlers Park, Play for All and citywide trail connections. City Manager Brooks Bennett and Chief Financial Officer Kevin Klosterboer walk through the overall $789.7 million proposed budget, property tax rate and the long-term outlook for 2030.

By watching the episodes, you’ll learn where the City is investing, how departments are preparing for growth and what it all means for the services we deliver every day. And you’ll also see a handful of the City’s directors as you’ve never seen them before as they power through the infamous “Last Dab” sauce.
