Customer Service Week: A message from City Manager Laurie Hadley
I truly believe the best time to learn about what individuals and groups are made of is when times are tough. We have certainly had our share of tough times over the past year – 18 months really – and we have come through time and again. I know we are ready to get past the pandemic. The light at the end of the tunnel is in sight, but sometimes it feels like it is moving closer, and other times it feels like it is moving away. No matter the circumstances, our job is to serve and serve with kindness and compassion.
This year’s Customer Service Week features the theme “The Power of Service.” Perhaps it is ironic, but some of this year’s most compelling examples of our service were on display in February – when the power went out.
I get chills when I hear our folks telling the tales of going above and beyond in their own words. If you haven’t had the chance to checkout our “Storm Stories” series, I highly encourage you to do so…
- See something, do something: A streets crew makes a life-saving decision
- City, community come together to serve at Warming Center
- Before it could open, warming center needed rescue
- A worried father leads to a rescue just in time
- ‘I literally felt like we were living next to angels’
- A Trip Worth Taking: How the City kept water flowing
These stories are just a few examples of the Power of Service in Round Rock. I know you go above and beyond for the community regularly and many times these deeds go unnoticed. That does not mean they are not important. In fact, what you do when no one is watching is what matters most.
Without teamwork, inside and across departments, we simply could not achieve the great feats that we do. A positive attitude mixed with a little teamwork is the secret recipe for our power.
In the past I have asked us all to continue to be a shining light of what can be accomplished when we work together. I am again calling on you again to illuminate your work teams by showing the community the true power of service.
As always, I am honored to serve alongside you.
Sincerely,
Laurie Hadley, City Manager
