During Health, Safety and Security Awareness Week, Human Resources presented the inaugural Hassan Farhat Safety and Risk Management Award to the Transportation Department.

The Hassan Award is presented for outstanding dedication to health, safety and loss prevention. It honors the department that has the lowest accident rate for vehicles, equipment or work-related injuries. To be considered for the award, a department must conduct a majority of its daily operations in the field.

The Transportation Department received the award on Sept. 15, the first day of Health, Safety and Security Awareness Week.

“On behalf of the many dedicated and hardworking men and women in our department, I was honored to accept the first ever Hassan Farhat award for Safety,” says Gary Hudder, transportation director. “As our community continues to grow, our employees are exposed to ever increasing hazards as they go about their daily tasks, taking care of our citizens. Even though we continually train for and preach safety, ultimately we can only do so much to control that exposure. I am very proud of our staff and their obvious attention to the details that create a safe work environment for all.”

The Award was named for the City’s late Safety and Risk Manager, Hassan Farhat.

Congratulations to everyone in the Transportation Department!
