Last year I said I truly believe the best time to learn about what individuals and groups are made of is when times are tough. In March, we once again faced an unprecedented challenge when a tornado hit the east side of town. Times were tough and many of our neighbors are still putting the pieces of their homes back together.

We were there in a moments notice and remain there to this day assisting where we can. It is amazing how quickly things can change, which is why we must always slow down and reflect on all the great things we have here in Round Rock.

This year’s Customer Service Week features the theme “Celebrate Service!” I am always a proponent of us celebrating our successes and we have had many successes this past year.

Roads are being constructed. Water and wastewater issues, both large and small, are being worked on. Our public safety professionals continue to arrive quickly and prepared in times of need. Our parks have been upgraded – if you haven’t been to Yonders Point you should really check it out. We continue to plan for and inspect new developments without ignoring our precious neighborhoods. Our facilities are being maintained and new ones, like the Library, are being constructed. There are so many reasons to celebrate that I simply can’t list them all.

Thank you all for being part of our team! Like the shirts said that we handed out at our employee gathering in the spring, “this is what we signed up for.”
