Thomas Caven, MD Medical Director

Thomas Caven, MD Medical Director Dr. Caven graduated summa cum laude from University of Texas at Austin with a BA from its Plan II Honors Program. After completing his medical Education at UT Medical School at San Antonio, postgraduate training followed at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas (affiliated with UT Southwestern). In 1983 he began an Austin private practice in Family Medicine, and in 1989 joined Austin Diagnostic Clinic where he served on the Board of Directors. A founding member of Travis Physician Associates, Dr. Caven helped develop it into a large primary care group; after a merger in 1998, it became Seton Health Partners.

Dr. Caven served as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director at UMC Brackenridge Hospital from 2001-18, and later as the inaugural Chief Medical Officer at Dell Seton Medical Center at UT. Dr. Caven joined Seton Health Alliance as its Medical Director in 2018 and has played a central role in developing the health strategies of SHA’s clinically integrated network.
