Leave

City of Round Rock employees, both full and part-time (normally scheduled to work at least twenty hours per week), are eligible to receive paid time off, including holidays, vacation leave, sick leave and emergency leave.  Additional information about paid leave benefits may be found in the City’s Policies and Procedures Manual

Holidays:  

12 paid holidays per year:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • President’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veteran’s Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Friday following Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day or (when Christmas Day falls on a Monday, Christmas Day and either the preceding Friday or following Tuesday) or when Christmas Eve falls on a Friday, Christmas Eve will be observed on the preceding Thursday.

 

Vacation Leave:

Full-time employees accrue 4 hours of vacation leave each pay period (first and second pay periods of the month).  Part-time employees accrue vacation leave at a prorated rate each pay period (first and second pay periods of the month).   Vacation accruals vary by years of service, and by department.

During the first six months of employment, employees will accrue vacation leave but may not take it.

Employees are encouraged to take regular vacation time at least annually.

 

Sick Leave:

Full-time employees accrue 4 hours of sick leave each pay period (first and second pay periods of the month).  Part-time employees accrue sick leave at a prorated rate each pay period (first and second pay periods of the month).

Sick leave may be used for illness of the employee or the employee’s immediate family member, and for an appointment with a doctor.

 

Family and Medical Leave (FMLA):
Employees may be eligible for up to 12 work weeks of paid and/or unpaid leave during any 12 month period for certain medical or family situations.

 

Catastrophic Leave Pool:
Employees may donate sick leave to the Catastrophic Leave (“Pool”) so that eligible employees will be able to remain on a paid status for a longer period of time when they have exhausted all leave balances. The amount of leave for the Pool is dependent upon the donations by employees.

 

Emergency Leave:
The City may provide paid absences for a death in an employee’s immediate family.  Normally, up to three days will be approved.  If extensive out-of-state travel is involved, two additional days may be granted by the Department Director after consultation with Human Resources.

 

Military Leave:
An eligible employee who is called to active duty or authorized training as a member of the state military forces or any of the reserve components of the United States Armed Forces is entitled to a leave of absence from his or her respective duties for 15 days in a federal fiscal year without loss of time, performance rating, vacation time, or salary.

 

Additional Leave:
Employees are entitled to leave without pay for jury duty and for serving as a witness in an official proceeding. Also, employees can use up to 2 hours of administrative leave to vote in national, state, and/or local elections.

 

Leave of Absence:
A leave of absence is an approved absence from duty in a non-paid status for not more than six (6) months. Granting a leave of absence is at the discretion of the City Manager.
